I ran a traffic report on the Dreamweaver Dev Center and the Dreamweaver CS3 simulations are by far the most popular thing we have on the Dreamweaver Developer Connection

Quote from Dreamweaver Customer
I can't thank you enough for this article. It's state of the art. Mark Fletcher has
done a great job. I definitely want to learn more.

Adobe Advisory Council Membership

For over 7 years I have been a member of the Adobe Captivate and eLearning Suite Advisory Councils where I have advised Adobe on the features they intend to include in their eLearning product toolset. I am credited for many of the features that you see in Adobe Captivate today and I was also awarded as the top bug hunter for both Adobe Captivate 3, 4 and 5.

Prior to joining the Adobe Captivate and eLearning Suite Advisory Councils, I served for 7 years as a member of the Dreamweaver Advisory Council and again am credited for features that are present in the Dreamweaver product.

Southport and Formby Primary Care Trust
After leaving WebAssist.com I became acutely aware that much of the learning content I had developed was mainly focused on software training. Therefore, I looked for opportunities to develop other forms of e-Learning such as soft skills learning. One project I worked on was for the Clinical Psychology department of the Southport and Formby PCT. This piece of eLearning is a prototype that teaches help health professionals treat patients with cancer.

Solution Focused Approaches

Zonetec Alarm Systems

I was commissioned by Zonetec Alarm Systems to convert an existing Authorware course into an Adobe Captivate 4 format. This project involved reviewing the existing online eLearning content and making it compatible with the company LMS system.

WebAssist.com

For nearly four years, I held the title of Training Manager designing and developing eLearning courses for the software development company WebAssist.com. During my time at WebAssist.com I created literally dozens of eLearning projects Below are examples of types of projects I worked on.

Product Feature Tours

In order to promote the WebAssist.com product range, I created feature tours for every new product that the company developed. The common tasks I performed to create these project types included:

1. Creating the feature tour storyboard.
2. Reading the software specification document and creating a script based of the product key features.
3. Working with the WebAssist.com art department to develop the feature tour graphics. In many cases I would provide the with a rough composition of the type of imagery I wanted to use to convey the key product features.
4. Recording the voice-over.
5. Performing all keystroking / QA testing.
6. Launching the product feature tour.

Many of the guidelines and working practices I developed for creating product feature tours are still being used by WebAssist.com.

Examples of Product Feature Tours:
Solution Recipes
WebAssist.com solution recipes are interactive flash tutorials which teach product users how to get to grips with some of the more advanced product concepts. During my time at WebAssist.com I created a library of interactive self-paced product simulations for the WebAssist.com product range.

1. Working with WebAssist software engineers to create the both the course outlines and entire lessons for each of the solution recipe modules.
2. Reading the software specification document and creating a script based on product key features.
3. Working with the WebAssist.com art department to develop the solution recipe graphics. In many cases I would provide the with a rough composition of the type of imagery I wanted to use to convey the key product features.
4. Authoring all of the Solution Recipe modules.
5. Performing all keystroking / QA testing.
6. Launching the Solution recipes.

Examples of Solution Recipe:

Solution Maps
During my time at WebAssist.com I always looked for innovative ways help the WebAssist.com user base get the most out of the product range. One approach I worked on with the VP of Product Strategy was to create an interactive solution map that provided users with a 10,000 ft view for building an online store using WebAssist eCommerce and Developer tools.

Starter Kits
Following on from the tremendous success of the WebAssist.com solution recipes, I was the driving force behind the development of the commercial interactive self-paced tutorials which are known as Starter Kits. As Training Manager for WebAssist.com I was responsible for creating the following Starter Kits:
  • Database Starter Kit for PHP
  • Database Starter Kit for ASP
  • Database Starter Kit for ASP.NET
  • CSS Designer Starter Kit for Photoshop
  • CSS Designer Starter Kit for Fireworks
  • CSS Menus Starter Kit for Photoshop
  • CSS Menus Starter Kit for Fireworks
  • SEO Starter Kit: Keywords
For the SEO Starter Kit: Keywords project, I worked closely with Treehousesem.com and was responsible for ensuring that the existing TreeHouseSEM documentation was correctly converted into a truly engaging e-learning course.

Dave Buchholz - Owner: icre8.com
Mark, I would like to commend you on the excellent work that you did for WebAssist.com on their e-learning courses for their software. I found your method of instruction extremely easy to follow and enabled me to get up to speed with the techniques and skills needed to use the software efficiently with the minimum of fuss.

Podcasts
In addition to creating product feature tours and self-paced interactive simulations, I was keenly aware that it was important to try out new forms of delivering e-Learning content. One approach I took was to create a number of podcasts.

Podcast Example

Since 2007 I have been the instructional designer for the Dreamweaver Bible, where I have created self-paced tutorials which accompany this best selling Wiley Publishing title.

I was also the technical editor for the book CSS Hacks and Filters - Wiley Publishing where I received the following acknowledgment from the author
Joseph Lowery

My greatest debt of gratitude goes out to Mark Fletcher who, as Technical Editor has shared his enthusiasm, encyclopedic knowledge and real-world experience since the projects inception. Throughout the writing process, Mark has generously pointed out resources, breaking trends, and hard-earned insights. I feel honored to have Mark by my side and look forward to working together with him in the near future.
